To clean brass parts
1 gallon vinegar from the grocery store about 2 bucks.
Hotplate
Sauce Pan with cover
Boil the brass parts for at least 30 min. Low heat to just keep the boil and covered so the vinegar doesn't evaporate too quickly
Remove and scrub lightly with a small wire brush under running water.
The parts in the pics below are from my junk box and were covered in rust and who knows what else.

Don't do this in the kitchen unless you want your house to smell like a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips

The first Pic was only partly cleaned to show the difference.

Ernie, Good info to know. I've used vinegar with salt, unheated, in the past. It worked but left a pinkish color to the brass. This seems like a better idea.
