I have not heard of this before, and so I thought others might like to see the thread. Quite a complete discussion of the subject.

I'm very surprised. [As a "lurker" I've been impressed by the wealth of knowledge you guys have to share.]
It was common in my Navy days to use "bug juice" (military cool-aid) in a strong concentration as a cleaner for bronze deck drains (and other things brass). This was due to the high citric acid content. As with most acids, activity is increased somewhat with heat.
