I have been fortunate in obtaining some spun cast iron cylinders of various diameters . I have made one set of rings for small Cooper RT engine . The method i used was to turn the OD to the cylinder size ,cut the gap and spring open with a spacer . I then heated to a cherry red in a jewellers electric kiln . The end result is perfect . Now for some other re ring jobs!
Interested to hear of others attempts to make rings.

Peter,

Sounds good.

I seem to recall that someone posted a link to an article on piston ring "construction"... I can't find it now... anyone remember?

I recall "Ernie'' had a very good posting on piston rings some time ago.
The rings i made were approximately 2inches in diam . I am now going to make a set of rings for my Stuart Turner P55.
Tubal Cains ..diam plus .002'' is fine but i machined diam to bore size and ''spread''by by heating evenly in a small kiln
