9TH ANNUAL CHESAPEAKE ANTIQUE BOAT & MARINE ENGINE SHOW
Solomons, Maryland USA
MAY 2-3 2009

Dear Antique Boat and Marine Engine Enthusiast:

We would like to invite you to join us Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, 2009, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. for the fourth annual Solomons Maritime Festival. In the past you have participated in the Chesapeake Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show at the Calvert Marine Museum. If you were here in 2006, 2007, or 2008 then you know the show was part of this festival, which celebrates maritime traditions of this area. In addition to antique boats and engines, some of the activities planned include traditional music, maritime carving, Chesapeake Bay retriever trials, traditional foods, crafts demonstrations, children's model boatbuilding, and traditional games. A schedule of events for the weekend will be available on our web site, www.calvertmarinemuseum.com. As in the past, the marine engines and vintage boats will be on display in front of the museum and in the parking lot. Although there will be no judging, each exhibitor will receive a commemorative plaque of the event.

If you would like to participate, please complete the enclosed registration form, which can also be found on our web site. There is no registration fee. The event is open to collectors of pre-1975 outboard and inboard engines, antique marine steam engines, and model engines. Antique and classic boats of all kinds can be displayed on trailers or afloat in the museum's boat basin. The registration form needs to be returned by April 9, 2009. When we receive your registration, we will send a confirmation. If you are unable to participate, but wish to remain on the mailing list for next year, please email Jean Phelps at phelpsjg@co.cal.md.us.

On our web site there is a list of local accommodations. We have reserved a block of rooms for Friday and Saturday nights at the nearby Holiday Inn at a reduced rate of $97 per night. These rooms have been reserved under Maritime Festival until April 1, 2009. When calling for reservations you must give the Holiday Inn this code “M51.”

On Saturday evening, all festival participants are invited to a barbeque under the lighthouse starting at 6:00 p.m. If you wish to join us, please include a check for $15 per person, payable to the Calvert Marine Museum. We will also offer a continental breakfast for anyone staying overnight. Indicate on the registration form if you will be taking advantage of this offer.

Antique boats and marine engines are an important part of our maritime heritage. We look forward to having you as part of this celebration.

Sincerely,

Sherry Reid
Event Coordinator
