Hello all, I am new to this website, already delighted to be able to connect with other old marine engine enthusiasts. Having used various engines in my boats, I always end up reminiscing and forever appreciating my old small Enfield diesel engine that I had in the late '40s, so I decided to try and find and purchase one. If anybody could help me, that would be great, I found one on eBay the other day but it had already been sold... What I am looking for, is a small 17 horse power, horizontally opposed, two cylinder, air cooled, Enfield diesel engine that I am going to use on a small fishing boat. Thanks all, Lance |

Dear mr Terry, Jen and I are just delighted at your having cast up the diesel. I fell on it, I am enchanted by the sound which raced me back to 1950 and the ensuing 20 years. The Enfield diesel I had was in a 31ft auxiliary sloop with which we put me most of the way through college. It was hand cranked horizontally opposed 2 cylinder 17 horse and I was morally certain that it would run on hand fat, bear grease or hair oil. It was a marvelously tough little fellow. and when 12, i was able to start it because of the willful nature of somewhat tough and resilient little kids. Alas, yours I think you say was a Ford , mine an Enfield, manufactured I believe just after the war by the same manufacturer who put out the famous Enfield riffle. My fascination has been with the conviction that we must return to simplicities in an age of technological triumphs which seem to have put us in financial bondage as well as that of our energy consumption, what we are passing along to our environment and of course global warming.Might there be a chance that Ford might have records of the evolution of what I am quite convinced was my Enfield to your illustration. The reason is that the profile as governed by the position of the cylinders, the flywheel housing and the shaft coupling are so very strongly illustrative of mine. Might you have any contact with such a department of Ford? I am delighted that we have smoked you out and the splendid recording of your youtube reverberates in me, my very kindest regards Lance |
