I have a blaxland twin pup which has been running quite well till lately. Recently the front cylinder stopped working. I replaced the spark plug and it returned to full power, however it was blowing white smoke out the exhaust like Willie Nelson. Thinking that it might be unburned fuel causing the problem I took it out and played with the fuel needle to try to get rid of the smoke. As I was out the front cylinder dropped out again (it must be noted that it was a mexican made spark plug which I put in as it was the only one available and from what I have read on other posts are rubbish). I then drained the fuel tank and line thinking that maybe there was water in the fuel mix. I have some theories but I have very little knowledge of anything mechanical and I could use some words of wisdom. I'm worried it could be water in the cylinder causing the white cloud of smoke out the back. If it is that is there a way I can remove it without pulling the engine apart (maybe drain the sump but then how could I fill it again?) As I said I am still learning and am open to all advice... |

You probably let it idle too long on a rich mixture setting and it "sumped up".Then when a clean plug is fitted,it starts burning the surplus in the crankcase, hence the thick white/gray smoke. Just run it until it clears. Water in the cylinder will show up as a water on the plug and no firing at all on the affected cylinder. Todd |

Bobby, The good news about draining the sump of a Blaxland (being 2 stroke) is that when you drain it you don't have to refill it. It seems odd to me that only number 1 cylinder is giving you problems if it is a 'sumping up' problem but you could test for plug problems by swapping the plug from No 1 into No 1 cylinder. Are the plug leads and connections sound? Is there any sign of No 1 overheating? (paint burning on the pot?) If so you could remove the water pump and check for any build up of mud or silt in the water jacket. Re water in fuel: Does your fuel tank have a water trap? If so you should just need to drain that each time you use the engine. Where are you? I'm sure some bright young Blaxland operator would be happy to have a look if you are close enough. Hi, The owners manual indicates that if draining of the oil from the sump does occur that 1/8 of a pint of S.A.E.-50 lubricating oil "per sump" is requited... I did this with an oil can. A further thought about your running problems. The owners manual advises that fuel mixture is to be :- 1/4 of a pint of S.A.E. 50 lubricating oil to one gallon of fuel. NOT TWO STROKE OIL. Hope this helps . Allen |
