Here's a picture of the extension that I made up to launch the fantail.
It's about 6 ft long and you can see that I added stiffening / strengthening to the angle iron as it is carrying the whole load of the tongue weight.
I did this so that I wouldn't have to submerge the rear axle of the vehicle into the lake water.
I only use it to launch the boat.
It also makes it easier to see the boat and to steer it into the launching slip.
I used a ball hitch and a U bolt to connect to the trailer hitch.

Nice work
I use a piece of chain however my trailers have a tongue jack with a swivel wheel.
Just stop once the trailer is headed down the ramp and block the wheels. Uncouple and attach the chain. Pull ahead enough to get the chocks out and then just let it down the ramp.
Now this being said you are in fresh water. The back wheels and axle and the rest of your vehicle get wet with fresh water every time it rains. Oh and salt water in the winter. |
