I own 2 St Lawerence engines in boats and have experienced the brass ball sticking on the seat of the water intake side in both motors (preventing cooling) after not cruising for a couple of weeks. The brass ball nearer the engine has never stuck. Anyone else experience this issue?

Not with my St. Lawrence, but I did notice that one of the races was damaged. I swapped it out. check the crown shaped thingies the balls fit into.

With my Adams engine which uses a slightly different system, sticking check valves and overheating was a big issue.

I did two things, one which might help your situation. I heated the parts slightly and applied a liberal coating of automotive wax. Then I polished the heck out of them. Problem solved.

They now get a re-wax before every boating season.

Corrosion may possibly be the issue.

Cheers!

Cheers!

Thanks Chris,
It sounds like a good idea to polish things up and coat with wax or perhaps Teflon.
