I have a Gray Phantom 125 in my 1948 Century SeaMaid. The Carbs (dual updrafts) have been rebuilt and the engine idles and revs great when under no load. The problem I am having is with the engine under a load. As soon as I put the engine in gear and attempt to accelerate the engine bogs down and has absolutely no power. It will idle OK for a while but I need to take it off load and rev the engine to make the idle smooth out again. I have not played with timing yet, primarily because I do not want to be stranded with an engine that won't restart. Any help?

Check to make sure your 3rd and 4th spark plug wire are not reversed/crossed. I did that when I changed plugs and the engine idled just fine (both pistons fire at the same time) but I could not get full power.

Also, I have used a 12 volt coil on my 6 volt ignition system causing the lead wire to the distributor to partially burn. The engine would run at full RPMS for a short while until the wire got hot, then I lost RPMs and power. Use a 6 volt coil!
