All vessels since 1972 have been required by fed law to have a Hull Identification Number imbedded in the upper starboard corner of the transom-- Known as HIN-- it is a 12 character number.
The first three are MIC which is Manufacturers info and listed by the Coast Guard.
get your HIn numbers and go to this web site-

http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_database.htm

There was a Carter Mfg Co in Garden Grove, Cal may be the one ?? Let us know what you find !
