Anyone willing to hazard a guess or estimate on what one would need to pay for a 1915-20? evinrude sgl.cylinder inboard flywheel magneto ignition? Not stuck, looks pretty good, magneto may need some work. Sorry no photo yet.

Well Phillip - I have one that cost me about $45 including shipping from Texas to upstate NY. But the seller thought it was a water cooled motorcyle engine and did not know it was an inboard Evinrude marine engine.

Do a search for Evinrude on this site: there may be other information.

Great buy, does it run? It appears that the inboard is very similar to the Evinrude RBM of similar vintage. Would one expect them to be similar in value and price as well?

I have not tried to run mine Philip: the original wire from the magneto in the flywheel is in very poor condition and I am reluctant to replace it.

Be sure it's an inboard and not a converted outboard, inboard had mounts on the block, outboards usually have angle iron mounts.

1917 article, first year on the market 1916.

Bob, serial numbers are stamped into the thin edge of the mounting bracket- can determine year of mfgr.

Thanks, I appreciate your insights. R B Price here is some info that may be of help with your magneto. I believe the magnetos are the same as the outboard version. www.pfs-ware.com/rbmj Click on Vol.2- Issue 1, scroll down about half way, the second page past the buzz coil diagram. There is a Evinrude stator plate with explanation and schematic, found it helpful. Best wishes Philip

such a neat engine with the magneto in the flywheel; no messy/ noisy gears! I love the neat engine beds, and that you can just put the whole thing on the table! wow; an engine that small has a priming cock!

I don't want to hijack this post, but I need a little help. I have a two cylinder Evinrude inboard that is missing the magneto plate and the exhaust manifold. I have found a plate that fits, but it is for a single cylinder outboard. I am thinking of redoing the coils and converting it to two cylinder - unless someone can possibly point me to a plate built for the two. Is this an impossible task? Many thanks, Dick

The newsletter is freely available, as you can see. It contains some great info, that is useful both to Row Boat Motor owners, as well as Marine Inboard owners. There is considerable crossover between the two as I'm sure you are aware.
The rest of the site is open to AOMCI members, at this point.

Im sure the rbm mag is the same as the inboards. I have a 1 cyl inboard. Does anybody know what the origional color of the inboard was? I heard they were some shade of blue.

Like you I am restoring an Evinrude twin DD that has a broken
Back plate. I have looked at the gram back plates and there are several different ones. It is good that you have the flywheel as the twin has two lobes for the points. I even looked at the fire pampers for a back plate there are several different ones of those also

Miles, Small inboard engines like the Evinrude were suitable for small power skiffs and more often in Motor canoes
