Last week, a good pal rescued ( thanks Don C) this engine, gearbox, muffler and carb from a lawn art installation. It came from Ramsay Lake near Sudbury, Ont. and was within the same family that owned the original boat -now long gone.
As best I could make out, the number on the flywheel is 1820 - there may be other numbers but they are in the rust dimples now.
The engine had a problem with the crankcase of the rear cylinder but was apparently expertly welded / repaired.
I took about 2 quarts of black crud out of the muffler - not a pleasant job, but it's good inside - not rusted out.

one

The weldment is sort of visible here
two

The gearbox is not seized but the hubs fore and aft are . I suspect the internal sliding ring is also seized - they usually are but not the reverse band.
three

The prop is RH 14 in diameter and narrower blades than what today's blades have - I think the pitch could be 10 or 12 . No major dings

oops - file size too big

Here's the Krice carb. Notably, there is no valve on this Gray unlike most single cylinder engines. This indicates that it is a 3 port engine. In any case, the valve would be useless on a 2 cylinder engine.
five

Here's a shot of the muffler and the piping that went with it.
oops - picture file size was too big - will post later

I'm not sure what the future holds for this engine, but I know it ain't going to be scrapped.

Here are the pictures of the prop, with its skinny blades and the muffler

one

And the muffler / piping . I like the old style elbows with the narrow beads.

Don C has better eyes than me - the number stamped on the flywheel might be 6U 1320

Richard D - can you estimate the year from that?
