I recently finished restoration of an Acadian 6.5 HP make-and-break, an old type with the combined cylinder and head. There was no number plate on the cylinder, no mounting holes and no scar on the paint to suggest a missing plate. While stripping and re-painting I watched for any cast-in numbers and there were none. Now, I'm thinking that my engine has a replacement cylinder, issued by the factory with no number plate. The cylinder base gasket was clearly home-made, which reinforces this suspicion.

Do any of our motor-head friends have thoughts on this question? Does anyone know what range of years are represented by this type of motor?
