You can contact Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering in Lunenburg, NS, give them the SN and they will tell you how old it is and also where it was shipped to. There is a link to their web page from the links page here on Old Marine Engine.
Hope this helps

I don't know what happened but I have lost track of the thread discussing Alantic and Arcadia serial numbers. Guess it is the age group. I checked my Atlantic and found that I had lied. Sorry about that. Its a type H 14 Hsp serial number 11263. According to Lunenburg made in 1967. I wonder if we could persuade Lunenbur to give us a listing for record purposes on this page so people could simply call up this page and get their answere without going back to Lunenburg each time? Any thoughts??

thats a great idea, I'd love to know how old my 4 hp is. The gentleman that we bought the boat and motor from said that the motor is only between 15 and 20 years old, but that seems hard to believe. It is in excellent condition, but from what I've read here it seems that they stopped making these engines long before 15 or so years ago.

The Atlantic was made by Lunenburg Foundries in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. They are still in business but gave up making make-and-breaks about twenty years ago. They still have records for almost all engines they made. They can usually tell you date of manufacture and to whom the engine was sold. They may charge you a few dollars to dig the information out of their archives but I have found them pleasant to deal with in the past. Their web site is at http://www.lunenburgfoundry.com/Home/home.html
