An article written by marine book author Dan Fostle in a 1997 issue of the Clayton NY based Antique Boat Museum's Annual Gazette covers early 20th century boat builders on the St Lawrence River. Mr Fostle mentions the Tassey marine engine built in the riverside town of Alexandria Bay NY by designer builder Bob Cranker circa 1910. He later references an earlier Huthinson built 25 ft boat powered by a two cylinder four HP Tassey engine circa 1907. This is the first reference I've seen to this engine builder. Has anyone seen additional references or data on this builder?

Yes indeed there was a Tassey in Alexandria Bay, NY. It was on James Street which is the main drag in what was also a bicycle shop. To my knowledge there is only one Tassey in existance and it is in beautiful condition. A one lunger. I will try and get photographs to post although the owner is reluctent to disclose.

Cheers
Dave

Louis Tassey of Redwood NY was the inventor of the Tassey Marine Engine, believed to be the first, or one of the first, engines used on the St Lawrence. I am seeking more info, photos, and location of any existing motors by Tassey, who was my ancestor. I have more information on Louis Tassey for anyone interested. Txxx for any assistance.
