Dear All, I am working on a restoration project that drives me crazy. On the tag on the engine it mentions that the engine is a Couach L12 and that’s it. Going true the internet it might be an Renault Couach, but no matter how I look, I can’t find any details about this type of engine. For your reference I have placed a little movie on youtube so you can see how lovely this engine is. Is there anyone who can determine what I have and where I can find a workshop manual? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUNvoqsF_iQ My sincere thanks in advance Couach L12 |

This site lists all the Renault engines. None have an L12 designation. http://www.renaultoloog.nl/marine-english.htm. You may have an early Couach marine engine which was manufactured in Arcachon , FR. Couach and Castelnau were early boat builders in Arcachon. Both made marine engines and had foundries. Sometime in the 30's I believe they stopped making their own engines. Couach appears to have begun buying engines from Renault while Castelnau ceased production. I will private mail you an email of a man in Arcachon who is their local marine historian. |

Dear All, First thank you for your reactions. It’s nice to see that there are equal minded people, who like to preserve old craftsmanship. In my quest to find out what kind of machine I/we have, I have gone to the workshop again and made some pictures of the tag. As you can see I/we own a Couach CL-2. I am going to give my friend some glasses for Christmas this year;-) Having said so and looking true the internet, I have found some pictures of a similar engine, that was sold on a Dutch website several years ago. Also found an ad, on the French ebay, which sold a work manual of the CL-2, arch…. Also this was an old advertisement. So my hope is now again with this forum that someone could provide me with leads to get the workshop manual. Also I have added a picture of a number that I found on the engine block. Could that mean that this could be the production date? Number shown is 9-5-62 Martijn Messer

Hello Martijn, Nice find, your Couach marine engine. I happen to have a brochure on Couach marine engines which also lists your type CL2 engine and provides for its main characteristics, but...the brochure is in Dutch. The CL2's power rating is 12-18 hp at 1200-1650 rpm. I have attached four relevant pages for your interest.
Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the desired manual. Best regards, Gerco (The Netherlands) |
