Hi, I'm in the UK and new to this forum. I need a little help with this Real marine engine I restored three years ago. Its had very little use in it working life and the story which came with it is that it was found adrift in the middle of the English Channel in 1943 by the Dover lifeboat. It was in a 17ft boat (a lifeboat?) and had a variable pitch prop which was later scrapped. The mag is a Swedish SEM which I haven't been able to date but the oiler is made by ASSA and they've dated it to 1937.

I've seen one other single and a couple of other twin cylinders around in museums in Norway plus another twin in a boat but that's it so presume it's rare.

When I got the engine the mag had failed and had been bodged with a car coil and points. I had the mag rebuilt but the impulse was missing and although I know roughly what an impulse should be like, does anyone have a similar mag so they could show me exactly what it should be like? Although the mag works great it is a little tricky to start without the impulse.

I also have a question about the prop but I'll post that in the other section. Thanks, Steve.

p.s. i can't seem to resize my photos to upload them so have just posted some old ones before the restoration for now.

At first I used the original water outlet setup through the exhaust, but for rallying the water got hot too quickly, so last year I put the outlet direct into the bath.
