Foolishly I removed the magneto drive and when painting the flywheel, rotated it and now want to know where the fly wheel should be and the lug in the magneto drive should be when I re assemble. Can anyone point me to a diagram or link or explain where it should be? Feel pretty silly as the engine was running like a dream before I decided to do this.

On the smaller models; When flywheel at TDC - the drive pin in the magneto socket spindle will align with a line [ or hole] in the top surface of mag drive casting , remove only one of it's bolts so that you can 'hinge' the gears in and out of mesh. This timing arrangement can be checked by; if the breaker points are just starting to open at its [?]degrees before TDC ( there may be another smaller timing mark on flywheel, about 4 min to the Hr, on the clock face). Bear in mind that some model's mag spins at twice-crank-speed [ so u might get two breaker openings per turn of the flywheel. I would Love to come for a run in that boat 1 day! Note; the nearest tooth will not always be perfect with timing marks.

Greg,

Will go back to the garage and give it a go. I should have the engine back in the boat by end October. I have some more woodwork to get done in the boat. Then it will be a pleasure to go for a run!

I did take the whole assembly off, but from your directions should be able to get it back together, aligned and sparking at the right time.

John

Johntr,

Markup the flywheel TDC (I use masking tape) then set your timing to be 3 1/2 inches BTDC on the flywheel circumference.

Cheers,

Mark
