Looking for any information about pre-1915 Norfolk Navy Yard 2 cylinder engines. Pictures, drawings, manuals, parts etc.
Trying to restore/reconstruct a 2-cylinder 4-1/2" bore motor.
Thanks

Never seen that placement of a priming cup before. Detroit lubricator by the look of it, but something has happened to the grip on the filler plug...could the Navy have polished most of it off?!
Does anyone recognize the magneto?

Here are a couple of pictures of the engine as we have it today. From looking at the posted pictures, we think ours is a very early version. The lower side covers have a riveted wood block to take up space in the crankcase. From Richard's pictures, we see that the new side covers have a casting with a built-in indent.

As Scott said, we are missing both heads. We also are missing 2 of the lower side covers. Any additional photos would be much appreciated.

Thanks for that clipping Richard! Surprising, at least today, that the USN would think it had to build its own engines, rather than contract out the job, but presumably they had the manufacturing facilities and wanted to keep them busy? The choice of jump-spark over make and break surprises me since the former was considered much less reliable was it not?
