Richard, I used to look at the engine ads and think it would have been nice to have bought a bunch at those prices. I found an inflation calculator and realized that in most cases you would be far ahead putting the money in the bank. It's a wonder they sold as many engines as they did.

The inflation calculator is an eye opener for sure !
The Peerless engine above was kerosene capable as were many engines in those years with kerosene about half the price per gallon of gasoline in 1917 or about .09 cents.

.09 cents 1917 would be 1.90 in 2013--

Try to buy kerosene if you can even find it for sale at a pump---over 5.00 per gallon-- still can't rationalize its inflated price- John D.Rockefeller was the richest man in the world in his day selling gasoline and kerosene, he would love the prices today ?

I have the 2 cylinder version with reverse gear that I would be willing to sell for the inflated price of $6,725.00.

Keith

That Peerless lettering on the side plate with a mechanical oiler-- Really cool old marine engine.
It's been here about a hundred years now, can't imagine what the inflation rate will adjust to if it makes another 100 ??
