Heres the scoop, I bought a 65 hydrodyne and the orginial engine was a ford interceptor 289 (casting number D8VE-6015-A3A Z 7E11) the engine was completely siezed so I bought a replacement ford 302 long block(casting number D4DE-8015-AA O 3L10), but the timing cover off the old engine is shot, (the water passages are crumbling) and i cannot find an aftermarket equivelent. The number on the timing cover is NOGT9OR421633, also RH260 and 1000725 appear on the cover. I will send pictures of the timing cover if that will help(they are too big to be uploaded here). I have went to Napa and they were no help. If anyone has one of these timing covers or knows where to get one I would be most appreciative. I'm getting desperate here. Thanks

Martin, there has been a fox in the hen house ...
If the casting number for fo the engine is D8VE the "D" is the 1970's the "8" is 1978
So I don't think that D8VE is a 1960's engine, if it were the casting number should be C_ _ _

C= 1960's
D= 1970's
E= 1980's

What they did after that I am not certain,

Try the local Ford dealer they do sell parts, and I have found they sometimes their prices are not bad. If you take the casting # to the dealer he can also tell you what vehicle the engine was in when it left the factory.

Good Luck,
Matt in North Wet Washington

Thanks Matt, You are absolutly right, original engine is a '78. I don't think that engine is the first one in the boat because the castings on the exhaust are from 65 (same year as the boat), so i'm thinking someone changed the block and kept all the same manifolds etc.. I was convinced by a guy at napa to change the cooling system around so I could use available parts. I hope this should take care of my problems, if not you will see me here askin silly questions again. Ohhh BTW this site is spectacular, been readin the forums for a couple months now and I'll tell you I found all the answers i needed and more, and I only have posted once. And if anyone owns a 60's hydrodyne boat I would love some pics to give me some more ideas on restoration. Thanks again Matt for your speedy reply and accurate answer.
