I replaced by 4108 perkins with a Nissan ED22 from Diecon Engineering. I didnt change the water intake as it used the same size hose as the 4108. When I first installed it, it appeared to keep quite cool, but now it heats up very quickly. I did have a problem with soot build up in the exhaust which I cured. There is little or no smoke now but i am concerned with that it heats up very quickly and almost boils at about 2100 rpm. My concern is that the exhaust may be restricting - does anyone know a way of checking for back pressure on the exhaust?

tap into the exhaust outlet and put an inches of water guage in it. run the engine through its cycle and see what you get for a reading.
