Dear old marine engine fanatics,

Recently I obtained a sailing boat with a 1 cylinder diesel engine. Probably a "solé mini 2" diesel, but I got a manual with it which says it's a Stuart turner engine.

Scouting the internet didn't give me a clear view of the history of this engine. I'm quite sure that it's a sole diesel, b but on some points it differentiates itself (dynastart)...

Can anyone give me some information about the history (make/type) of this engine, and maybe one can tell me what the connection with Stuart Turner is?

I added a picture of the engine

Kind regards,

Christoph Clement

I presume you got an answer before this, but if not, it certainly looks like a Sole Mini to me. I have one in my yacht that looks the same.

This is a Solé Mini, yes. We have the same model in our boat. The machine is made by Stuart as you write. We have been in contact with Stuart without success.

The machine has a Dynastart which is very expensive to repair. If you need to there is a simple solution. A Bosch agent told us this. But the Dynastart is commonly very reliable.

Do you have problems with leacking oil from the gear box?

I have 23feet sailing boat with a Sole Mini, and right now I´m repairing a leacking oil problem in the ronim gear box. It´s very probably that I´m gonna need to install a new one...

It's a while ago, but I got the engine running now. It's also installed into the boat. The only problem that is still occurring is that it doesn't deliver enough power.

Symptoms:

-Delivering power till half throttle, after that extra throttle doesn't have any effect.
-When pulling the "extra fuel lever for starting" the engine runs fine with enough power
-Engine is vibrating too much at some engine revs (I know it's a 1 cyl.)

So I thought the fuel injection was too early, so I tried too tune it. Only the problem is I can not find any markings for T.D.C. or injection moment on the flywheel...

Then I delayed the injection moment by means of placing shims under the injection pump randomly, but it even delivered less power.

Does anyone recognize these symptoms?

Greetings, Christoph Clement (Holland)
