Help! My Volvo MD7b had always started first kick - an indicator of good compression, I believe. Recently, the temperature alarm went off. We shut the engine down immediately. So no major damage done. The cause of the overheating was traced to the head. This has been reconditioned. When the head was replaced, the engine refused to start. The mechanic claims that the rings are now no longer holding compression. Given that the engine ran perfectly prior to the repair, this is a bit hard to believe. Can anyone confirm that this is a likely scenario? Basically, he is saying that the top of the engine is now generating too much compression for the bottom of the engine to cope with. Can anyone offer alternative solutions to a rebuild or repower?
