Hi John j I have found a ducatti 2cyl air cooled engine in Australia and am wondering how old it might be and if they are rare? |

They seem to be pretty rare nowadays. Allegedly these were actually made by VM Motori of Italy. They used to have a plant at Trieste and it would seem logical that the boat engines were made there. VMs main plant is at Cento and Trieste was allegedly disposed of years ago. If you email VM, they will tell you that these engines are "too old". Diesel Power of Mitcham Surrey UK used to hold spares but they say they now have very little left, the phrase "too old" pops up again. Possibly clones of these are still being made in low wage countries, although as the design used expensive aluminium this is not very likely. Lister clones are still being made in India but these engines use much less expensive cast iron. If the engine still turns you should be able to restore it if you can do it yourself. Unfortunately not many boatyards have the skills or patience needed these days. Good luck and best regards from Dave. |

Dear sirs, there is only one person in the U.S. able to supply every sort of info about the Ducati mono & double cylinder little diesel units and his name is Dale Chambliss in Houston Tx. He also had a huge inventory of spare parts for such engines. You can still try to contact him at technodr@swbell.net. Good luck. Best regards. |
