Help from the wise, please. I have a new head gasket for my P66 and notice it blanks out two sets of cooling waterways between the block and the head on one cylinder. For the other cylinder it allows all water flow. The old gasket was the same but it could have been fitted incorrectly. In the spares catalogue, it shows waterway blocking but does not show which way the gasket is fitted. Can anyone help, please?

John, i think the reason the gasket is solid where some waterways are, is to aid the engine to run a bit hotter.
we bought some gaskets like yours and opened up the waterways and have had no problems, but the engine is run in Australia where water temp is a fair bit warmer/

Many thanks, Matt and Ron, I am going to take a leaf out of your book and punch holes in my gasket to allow water flow through all holes in head and barrel. I suspect that if water flow had been a problem, Stuarts would not have stopped supplying thermostats. The manual says to fit the gaskets "so that the TOP marking is uppermost" but neither a my gaskets have such a mark. Thanks again, John Allen

John, what the manual may mean by up, is that there is a slight impression on the gasket around the cylinder holes and waterways, this should be up when the gasket is placed on the cylinder block.
