Many, many years ago we bought a Hicks engine up on Lake Almanor. We were hoping to restore it and install it on a boat but have never gotten around to it. We're thinking perhaps there is someone out there who would be interested in buying it and giving it a good home. Do you have any suggestions for how to go about selling it?

Conni and Jim,

The Hicks engine is a very desirable engine. I'm sure there will be collectors that are interested in providing a home for it.

You have a number of choices for selling it:
  • our classifieds at MarineEngine.com
  • eBay and other online sales sites
  • Gas Engine Magazine

I tend to think that visitors to our site (biased opinion I admit ) are going to be most likely to restore it and appreciate it.

Depending on the condition of the engine, the restoration could be very difficult, expensive, and time consuming.

You could post some pictures here if you wish or send them to me by email and I will post them. It might help you get some constructive feeback on it.

Good luck!

Needed badly- HICKS engine to complete project.
The volunteers at the Pillar Point Educational Fund have recently rebuilt the 1928 , 34ft Monterey fishing boat IRENE. We hope to use it as a harbor tour boat with the net proceeds going to a scholarship fund for the fishermen's families. IRENE is now back in the water at its home for the last 80 yrs, the Pillar Point (Half Moon Bay)harbor. PLEASE HELP.

Alex,
You should probably post your request as a new thread rather that at the end of a thread from 2005.

You should also post some pictures of the boat to inspire people. Look like you had a site but it seems to be off:

http://www.projectirene.org/

Sounds like a great project and I'm sure users here will be interested.
