I picked up this interesting bit of brass by J. W. Lathrop recently. It seems to be a float chamber for gasolene with a cork float and needle valve. The attachment bracket is about the right curve so it could be screwed snugly onto the side of an engine. Was this a stand alone item or was there a carburetor/mixing valve attached to it that is now missing? Did Lathrop produce other fittings than float chambers and mixing valves/carburetors?

I looked through the scattered issues of Boating, Yachting, Rudder, etc. that I have but did not find a single ad that showed a Lathrop engine. I also went through the Lathrop section on this site which has photos of the engines but I didn't spot this device. I am assuming this is the same Lathrop that built marine engines?

It looks like the float chamber for a kerosene injector.
I will try to find the literature on it.
