Several years ago I built a 25' Hooper Island with a Hercules/Michigan Marine Motor 2 cylinder gas engine in it. At that time I posted some on this board. It's been a while.

In my retirement, I am now starting a 36' scaled down Chesapeake Buy Boat. As power for the buy boat, I have collected two of the Buda/Navy DA 4 cylinder marine diesels, a 25 hp and a later 40 hp. (Same block, etc; different cylinder heads) I'll only use one engine in the boat and keep the other as a spare. The motors are 1940s vintage. A tag on the 40 hp says it was rebuilt by Norfolk Naval Ship Yard in 1964.

I am interested in any stories about running the DA diesel. Does anybody have any experience?

And, the 25 hp has a Morse 2:04/1 reduction gear behind the F/N/R marine transmission. The 40 hp is just the same straight through marine transmission without the gear reduction. The reduction gear is stamped MORSE DA 2.04 7421.
Does anybody have a lead on another of the Morse gear reductions?

Thank you for your help.

I picked a barn find Buda Navy DA. Pretty much trashed way beyond the re-build stage but has some good parts.

Reasonably priced. Let me know what you need maybe we can do business.---Matt
