Hi I have a volvo md2 and in gear it just don't seem like it's going all the way in and just don't stay in gear at all...is this an ajustment prob or something to worry about.....one more thing I just got this engine and it's going into my boat as soon as posible on the trans on this model when I put the engine in gear pushing the lever forward is this forward or reverse only asking becouse when I push the lever away from the enige it seems like the shaft is going a little faster confused witch is way to push the lever to make it go forward.I know it sounds like a dumb ques put had to ask thanks vince

Yes pushing fwd is fwd,the ratios of forward and reverse are different,the adjustment for this box
is done by adding or subtracting shims and spacers
Shims are located between the two halves of the main body,and spacers are located on the main shaft
just behind the smaller cone.
By placing the cone in the gear wheel and measuring the distance from the back of the cone to the rear of the large bearing on the gear wheel
you can determine how much wear you have.
It should be 85mm or 3&11/32.The amount by which the measurement is less than this determines how much shim is to be added (ie if it is 83mm you add
2mm of shim) If it is less than 81mm,new parts or relining is required
