I have a 16' custom built Woodies with a 1937 Ford V 8 Flathead Mini (60 hp) and matched to a Lehman 40 D 800 transmission with forward and reverse. First I can not seem to find any information or diagrams on this transmission. I could use some help...John Colorado Lehman Trans 40D 800

there is probably no documentation left. what specifically do you need? As far as I know all 1:1 mechanical reverse gears are pretty similar inside.

Ned, I need to see what is on the front of the transmission connecting into the bellhousing for the engine, so I know how much I still have to clear to pull it out. Right now I have about 1 1/2" before hitting coupling on propeller shaft. If I pull coupling on shaft I would get another maybe 2" for a full 3 to 3 1/2. I can not see if that is enough because the trans drum is at least 2" out from the trans housing into the bell housing and there is still a gear stem...

I would hate to pull the propeller shaft and coupling and find out ir would not clear. Also since I pulled it back I can not get it to go back in so I have a smooth turning of the trans as before. It seems to be off in the stem gear being in the right position and my shifter will not go into forward or neutral now. Do not want to mess things up because its my first time with this type od tranny. John

Looks like you'll need to realign the engine with the shaft. I measure the distance N_S_E_W between the engine hub and the shat hub. The differences should be not more than 5 thou . It's slow picky work adding shims to the engine mount points, but well worth it.

And I for sure would NOT remove the transmission while the engine is in the boat. That's bench work
and finicky to say the least. Plus there will be left over oil that will spill into your bilge and you'll never get all of it cleaned up .
