Hello Vinco owners, I finally got some time and finished the Irreducible and took it off to Davistown Regatta. All went well until the engine suddenly died half way acros the bay! The problem is that the maggy drive plate on the Lucas SR1 had come loose on the tapered shaft. There aren't any markings to indicate the correct timing. Rather than spend time on a "trail and error" exercise as well as getting a sore arm I was wondering if anybody knows the correct timing before TDC on these engines in either degrees or a measurement on the flywheel circumfrence ie I know that the small Blaxlands are 2 1/4 " on the flywheel before TDC. Thanks in advance, Mark S. |

Mark ...I reckon all these old engines are much the same as far as compression ratio and timing . I have a West Ho that uses the same magneto. The drive is dogged to the shaft ,ie direct drive. I can advance and retard so easly but i would say that 2 inches BTDC and she should and your Vinco will start. |

Thanks Peter, I'll start at the 2 inches and shuffle around in 1/8 increments until I'm happy. |

Mark, I timed my to 2 1/4 which work well, yes they are all about the same. This is based on a mate of my who has a Blaxland 3hp. |
