Nice work Scott, enjoyed the pictures. Was the mag in bad shape? That's a different check valve than I'm used to seeing on Cailles. We'll be looking for it at Calvert. J.B. |

Very nice work, thanks for posting. What is the HP and bore and stroke? Pushing the piston inward would scare the #^@% out of me though - in case it went too far, never to return! |

thanks guys after cleaning the mud wasps out of the mag. I just used a soft brass brush and wd-40. The first time I triped it I got a blue spark. I'm still fussing with timing. The check valve spring was shot but I think I have the right one. After popping the piston out of the cyclinder with the grease gun 7 tubes. I only pressed in the same amount as it came out. It has a 5 1/4" bore and 5" stroke.

I didn't realize it was that big, must be an 8hp. First marine engine I sleeved was a 6hp Caille, 4 1/2" bore. Did you weigh the piston, guessing 10-12lbs.I wouldn't use the grease gun untill it was broken loose, a friend split the cylinder that way. When using the grease method, you can fill the cylinder with oil or water to fill the void, saves grease and mess. |

Scott, very nice job on the restore. Great video on YouTube also. Did you know there is a 1922 Caille catalog that has your engine listed in it on Jack Craibs website? Your engine does appear to be 8hp. What was the big wash tub looking thing on the output shaft? My friend has a stationary GSM flywheel engine that uses that same magneto. You do not see that type of magneto that often. |
