I had the good fortune to meet Dave at Dick Alcocks house last year. We visited Dick after the Mystic and Portland shows, Dave drove down 3 hours to meet us. He was a kind and generous man, the Lockwood name is legendary in south Louisiana, the small communities on the water were not accessible by land, when the inboards came out the gas boats were their Model T's. Dave sent me quite a bit of Lockwood Ash info, but the most treasured item is a gold watch from the Lockwood Motor Co to Fred Lockwood, one of his ancestors. He thought I deserved it because of the work we do to restore and preserve the Lockwood Ash motors. He wanted to come to Louisiana for one of our events, his failing health would not allow it.

Dave Lockwood was a class act, a true gentleman, and a very knowledgeable outboard motor guy. I had the pleasure to meet his wife and travel to Keewaunee, Wi to see his collection of early Lockwood Ash outboard engines. Dave will sure be missed by a lot of old engine guys.
