We are researching a 1929 fuel ( gasoline) fill system employing 1 1/2� brass pipe. The threaded joints are made up with cotton wicking or string and a hard while putty, possibly white lead paste in some form.! Can anyone steer us to information or reference books on the matter, |

I suspect that ordinary pipe dope or the teflon tape used for plumbing might work for you.
I assume that the joint is not sitting in gasoline all the time.
