I'm confused with the copper line running from the side of the crankcase to the air inlet. There probably should be a plug in the side of the cylinder bottom. May be an engine which can run as a 2 or3 port? Cute engine....

It is a warm air tube. In pic 5 you can see the 5 intake holes in the side of the cylinder casting. I seem to remember that there ore 5 on the aft side too.

Yes, these vapourisers get a little frosty through evaporation. I have seen similar pipes on Unions and on Friscos where there was water jacket above and an air jacket below.
