I realize that the high-performance engine of choice in the era would have been a marinized flathead Ford V8, but has anyone ever run across speed equipment for a 4- or 6-cyl Gray? I would love to see pictures, or even an advertisement.

I have not seen speed parts ,but the guys doing tractor pulling are doing the same stuff to their engines. Contintials are used alot in farm tractors like Massy harris,Silverking and others. So guys are now useing thease old tractors in pulls and want more power. They say they use truck pistons and rods to bore and stroke the engines.

Larry,

Did the Massey tractors use the flathead engines at some point? I've been looking at lots of tractors on eBay since you made this post and all I'm finding are what appear to be OHV engines.

Thanks,
Dave

Yes lots of Massy Harris tractors used the flat heads. Off the top of my head models 61,81,22,33,44-6 later 44's had the ohv engine. Case allso used them in the VA,VI models before they came out with the VAC which looked the same, but had the case ohv engine. You should have been at the calvert show there were 4 gray/contintials there. You could go to www.ytmag.com and look up the models in their photo gallery some picture show the engines.
