Any Idea Who Built This Diesel Engine?

In my off time went exploring the beach near Masset. This old engine is all that remains from an old boat. It looks like it was a 2 stroke. Was that square thing on the rear of the block some kind of super charger? Next trip over I hope the tide is out so I can have a better look. Any idea who built it?
