I have ( I think) the first evinrude outboard
( refered to as a "row boat motor" ) It is mostly brass, single Iron cylinder. I thought it was a "B" model but serial number starts with
letter "C". My Dad restored this engine about
25 years ago. It looks complete as far as I can
tell. I think he said it would run except the
coil appeared to have an internal break. ( it
appears to be a coil "potted" in some black composite (asphault ? ) and inside a small metal
box. I might be able to rewind it ... ??????
Everything else mechanical seems to work.
I was wondering if anyone knows what an approximate selling price would be ????????

I kind of doubt you have one of the first. Here are some things to look for. The earlest have a very small gas cap, they also do not have a skegg on the bottom 1909 to 1912. a Better bet is yours falls within the 1915 to 1924 range
get me a serial number. The place to search for value is Ebay there are always one or two on there

here is a pic (maybe)
row boat motor:
Sorry can't get pick to upload.
Serial # is : C 61,3xx
Has small rudder fin on bottom below prop
( is this the skeg?)
Gas cap is about 1.5 inches
Motor appears to NOT be reversable
Flywheel is about 12-13 inches across and about 2 inches thick and made of brass.
has 3 patent dates on tag. 1 from 1911 and
2 from 1914
so I guess that would put it past 1914 ????
Any idea what a reasonable price might be ?
restored. brass polished and lacquered.
Iron grey enamel
mounted on brass and cherry rolling stand.
( the "upload" button seems inop when I push it
in my computer- don't know why ...... )
OK, my pic is 900K, can only be 100k max
Hummmm.... I'll work on how to make smaller....

Jim the Evinrude rowboat motors had a tag on the top of the tank towards the back. if you see a a smudgged area the tag is missing. if it has the small fuel cap (about 1 inch) its a 1913 or older
if it has the larger cap its a 1914 or later (about 2 inches) does it have a skeg on the very bottom?
no skeg 1912 or older
