From Eric Johansen

Edited e-mail from Eric and pics of an Atals 2 cylinder Gas engine

So, the question is, do you know anyone who might know where a 2, 3, or 4
cylinder Atlas exists which might show this detail. If I can get a few good
photos and a measurement or two I can fabricate the missing parts.

When I cruised around the Old Marine Engine website there is a wealth of
information there on Atlas-Imperial diesel engines and next to nothing on
Atlas-Imperial gas engines.

The two attached photos show the ignitor side of the engine. Both ignitors
are screwed into the cylinders but the pushrod and other linkage is missing.

At some time in the distant past an owner of the engine removed the intake
manifold and replaced it with a manifold fabricated out of pipe fittings.
When the original collector of the engine inquired about it he was told the
original manifold was laying in the mud on the beach. The original collector
went down on the beach and found the remnants of it and saved them so I have
enough to get measurements from for patterns for a new manifold.

Notice a bent nail instead of a cotter pin securing the nuts on
one of the rod bearing bolts. Also notice the channels cast into the upper
crankcase to allow the cylinder hold down studs to pass through the upper
crankcase and thread into the lower crankcase. Definitely Heavy Duty.

One of the things I will eventually need is some photos of the
ignitor assemblies

Very interesting engine; I have one very similar to this, perhaps identical. Is this a 16hp model?

There is a round bodied "balancing valve" that goes below the "Y" in the inlet manifold. I believe I know of another engine missing this part as well, so if you get any cast please let us know. I'll pass on a link to this page to the owner of that engine. There is another in WA, but with cylinders cast en bloc.

You seem to be missing the clutch "clamps" and the water pump as well?

Would you mind telling me what exact model of Manzel lubricator is fitted and whether it is steel or brass bodied?

Mine is stripped to a "short block" at the moment so I can perhaps help with dimensions and photos if you need them. Not sure if I have the ignitor push rods or not.

Here are a few shots of the manifold. Obviously with that placement it is not a balancing valve; my memory was at fault.

I'm a bit slow getting signed up for an account on this website for some reason but I have done so now. Up above I see a question concerning whether the Manzel lubricator is steel bodied or brass bodied. Without having looked closely at it I would guess it is steel bodied. The next time I go out to my Connex I will take a closer look at it and see if I can get more information. I just remembered I took a photo of the tag on it and took a look. The photo is fuzzy but I can make out: Class XC No. 4004 02? The question mark is the last digit which is somewhat obscured so I cannot make it out. I am not sure if it is a number or letter, it kind of looks like it might be a D or a b or maybe a zero.
