Here are a couple of photos of our new Waterman K2 5hp engine. We actually found it in our hometown in the middle of Indiana. It is serial # 1253. Does anyone know what year that would make it? It is in extremely nice original condition. What I can see of the bores, there is still nice cross-hatch showing. It runs pretty well and should be even better once we "tune" in is some more. The video is my older son running it at a recent antique machinery association show.

I have been soaking the stuck pistons since they got to me. It still isn't moving. I am going to move that engine up my priority list as it is a pretty neat piece. I will get going on some patterns for a few castings that I need to repair the crankcase. From there it should be a downhill slide..... Long, but still downhill! |

I have a similar marine engine to modhydro's. Where did you find the serial number on yours?

Nice K2 unit. Some think that first two digits of the Ser. # relate to the year. I believe that your engine is early. The timer appears to be a waterman. Many later engines were equipped with the Meadville timer. The carb if original it is a Kingston five ball. In Waterman outboards the company switched to Kingston 4 ball carbs in approx 1915. I believe that some also had 3/4 inch Schebler carbs. as well. In and out water manifolds look somewhat early. Yours uses the type with bolts connecting the manifold to the right angle fitting coming out of the cylinder. Later models used threaded connections. Congrats to you ,looks and sounds wonderful. |

The serial number on mine was right in the middle of the timer. It has the Waterman logo and some other stuff on it as well, but the etching is pretty faint.
Hope that helps. When I first saw your post with the photo, my heart about stopped. I though my wife had sold mine!
