Here are pictures of my Peerless I brought home yesterday:
http://buzzcoil.brinkster.net/MARINE/page101.html

I know nothing about this engine builder so it would be interesting to find out more about Peerless.

Thanks

Nice motor Dennis, looks like it's just about complete, maybe a breather cap missing. I like the old 4 strokes.

What would the starting crank look like on a Peerless? How does it work?

Thanks!

It could have been a strap with a cleat on the end that hooked into the flywheel, or if a bar it would look like a spanner wrench, sort of like a ? but cut short on the wrap around to catch about a 1/4 of the flywheel.

Is there a way to "search" for anything Peerless that could have been discussed here in the past?

Maybe my questions could be answered in the archives?

Denis,
There is a search button at the top of every page. I put Peerless in it with all the other fields left blank and got quite a few hits.
Give it a try

Does anyone know if the Peerless Marine Engine Company had ANY direct, or indirect, connection to the famous Peerless Automobile Company?
Edward L Grimm who owned Peerless Marine Engine Co in Buffalo NY & also had several famous race boats called the "Miss PEERLESS" .
Mr Grimm was a major investor & director in the Peerless Automobile Co.
Peerless Marine Engines were used by Hacker, Chris~Smith, Chris~Craft, Elco, Ditchburn, etc early on.
Photos of his early marine race engines appear to be based on the famous Peerless Auto Co. engines that were marine auto engine conversions.
What is the connection between the Peerless Automobile Co of Ohio & Peerless Marine Engine co ?

Thanks~

I've had my 4 cycle 5-6hp Peerless Marine Motor Co. marine engine for 4 years now. It is now time to make room in the shed and I'm ready to let go of it.

This marine engine has been in nothing but soft water in its life time. It is complete and in great shape. Many pictures can be seen here:
http://buzzcoil.brinkster.net/MARINE/page101.html

I think that few Peerless marine engines came out of Buffalo NY and Wendel makes no mention of it in his book.

I can give it a free ride to Canandaigua NY in a few weeks if it helps any interested party.

Write me Denis Rouleau for asking price at [email protected]

Thank You!

Some research has revealed that my Peerless was first introduced in 1917 as per attached ad: http://buzzcoil.brinkster.net/MARINE/peerless19170325.jpg

From a December 1917 Peerless ad I learned that the Peerless Marine Motor Co., Buffallo, NY. had been building engines since 1913.
