Ernie,

I was hoping someone out there might have a engine like the patent. When I'm searching through the patents and I see one that I think may be of interest to someone I will post it. I'm interested in any patents having to do with Detroit Engine Works or related engines if anyone should come accross anything.

Thank's

I've been offered a "Racine Boat Mfg Co." marine engine made in Racine Wisc. Wendel lists a "Racine Boat Mfg Co." in Muskegon, Mich. Is this the same engine builder working out of 2 locations or are they 2 distinct builders? The motor has a brass tag, no name cast on the front of the flywheel and the carb is missing. I can't find much on this company, could it be a fairly rare engine?

I have not seen the engine yet but I will get pictures when I go see it.

Thanks!
Denis Rouleau

Interesting. I live in Milwuakee Wi, 20 miles north of Racine. I had know idea there was a manufacturer here at one time. Like Milwaukee, Racine is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. Presumably that was thier market. I will give some thought to putting out some feelers locally.

There are several threads that can be accessed through a Google search by putting 'Racine Boat Manufacturing Company' in Google. Basicly; Fred Martin began Racine Boat Manufacturing Company in 1893 in Racine WI. A devastating fire destroyed the business/factory complex in 1903. The land owner wanted more money to allow a rebuild and the city/investors in Muskegeon Mi. offered a much better deal to relocate the company to Muskegeon . Some Employees did return to Racine to build boats under a new company name after a few years but the Muskegeon business prospered for a number of years. Racine Gas Engine company was begun in 1892 by Andrew Pierce
