There are two very small pins on the YT1 crankcase flange and I inadvertently broke one off while seating the oil seal. Maybe I missed it, but cannot find anything they align with. Does this need to be fixed? Pic attached from when there were two.

As always, any advice appreciated.

Hard to tell from your photo but I think this is where the trans mounts. If so I would say there's a thrust washer that mates with this.

JB thanks, your post made me go back to the disassembly photos, and it looks like the little pins do nothing in my situation.

I have another question, see photo of oil splasher, I do NOT have a photo of which way it goes through the oil, I assume the side with the oil hole is front, so the oil would be driven up into the hole, but not sure. That was something we didnt photograph or note in the notebook...

this engine is going back together now so I'm sure may have a few questions along the way. all help is appreciated.

Looking good Chris
It needs to be on the water pump side of the engine so when the rod dips into the oil it creates pressure in the hole to lube the rod bearing.

thanks ernie, just to be clear, "it" meaning the dipper not the hole. like this pic? so, the dipper 'scoops' the oil into the hole? engine operates counterclockwise looking at the flywheel...

Is it possible there's a thrust washer missing in the trans? I think the pins were there for a reason.

Ok I have been pondering the pins on the crankcase flange, and looking over the transmission internals, and I think the thrust is captured at the tailshaft ball bearing. It simply wont move in when pushed.

I didnt want to press that off just to find out for sure. I am going to guess that if those engine flange pins retain a thrust bearing or washer, it is for applications with no transmission (direct drive).
