Dear Fellow Collectors,

My entire collection of Nadler/Lockwood Ash marine engines was stolen last week from my garage. I have been collecting these since age 9. I'm about to retire now and was planning to restore these engines, put them in boats, and share these experieces with my grand-children. These thievs took away part of my life. Unfortunately my collection is relatively indistinguishable expcept may for the one complete, one cylinder, 4 horse Nadler engine painted light blue. If you are unable to help, at least be warned there is a predator among us.

THANKS

Bill Obier

Bill, where are you located? If you'll post a list of missing parts we will be on the lookout. Click on my name and send me an Email.

I too am very sorry to hear what happened. Your experience should drive all of us to take clear sharp photos of our engines including closeups of the tags and any unique identifying characteristics such as noticeable flaws in the castings, repairs, battle scars, etc. I haven't done that yet myself but it is time I did.

When I saw where you are located, my first thought was that I am way too far north to ever run into one of your engines. On second thought, where would a thief sell stolen engines? As far away from the crime scene as possible!

You and others may have photos taken of your engine at shows, etc. Most old engines have scars of one sort or another that makes them identifiable even under a layer of new paint. If you can come up with some digital photos, send them to me uncompressed. I am not going to try to convince anybody that I am a master at Photoshop. However, many times I have been surprised at how much detail I could tease out of a photo if the photo is in focus and taken with low or no compression. At least there would be something you could post on this site that could help identify one or more of your engines.

My bet would be with scrappers.

I met Bill after this incident, don't know if he follows this board. I believe they know who stole it, think it went to scrappers.

Bill sorry someone did that to you. It's a different world out there now. Can hardly trust anyone anymore. Just curious did they actually break into your garage or was the door open and no one at home? That's the kind of thing thieves look for garage door open and no vehicles at the house.
