I have a 225 dauntless v6 in a wood thompson boat. Some discusions on the internet state that the odd fire takes a special distributor cap. If this is true where can I get one? My motor runs a little rough and I think it has a even fire cap.

I would have thought that switching the spark plug wires around to match the cylinder firing order would do the trick.

The odd fire engines fire 2 cylinders close then a space and 2 more close then a space and the final 2. They had different distributor cam, cap and rotor to get the spark to the right cylinder at the right time. You just couldn't find TDC of number 1 and put the wires in the cap according to the firing order.
The early points dist caps actually had cylinder numbers by the towers so you could wire it correctly as long as the dist was in the engine correctly. The rotor had a long tab on the tip to make sure the spark went to the correct tower.
The HEI stuff was even more weird. I seem to remember an 8 cylinder cap with a couple of towers missing or something like that.
In spite of all this they made a real nice marine engine.
