| Louisiana Boats are Real Tough |

On the swamp picnic tour , one of the boats - batueax, more correctly, started up , but its prop encountered an underwater immovable object.
So the prop was now stationary, and the boat and motor started to rotate, lifting the side of the bateau about 1 ft up, until the coupling hub decided it had had enough and broke.
Inspection of the prop, the shaft and the hull when the bateau was hauled out, showed no bad effect of the encounter.
Mind you, captain Tom and his passenger Bruce were quite startled when all of this transpired.
So one of the Cajun gang (Jamie) simply wrapped the shaft log with some rags, and the bateau was towed home.
The engine was owned by Captain Tom's grandfather, and was recently rebuilt - good job on the rebuild.

Miro, I remember when you saw your first bateau you said "there's enough lumber in here to build three boats", this was a pleasure cruise, you can imagine the beating they took when they worked them hard. Had a good time on the cruise and a it was good to have the gang down for our spring kickoff. |

And a great time was had by all. My fear is that many will come to realize this and JB will be overwhelmed with people from all over the states. Representation this year,Canada,New York, Tennessee, Illinois, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Maryland and Pennsylvania. I'm sure I have missed some and I apologize. But there is no better hospitality than that shown by our friends in Louisiana. |

This is an 8HP Lockwood Ash, the most popular brand used around here. They were sold through Sears as Motorgo. L-A dropped the inboards in the mid 20's, concentrated on the outboards. The outboards at that time were too fragile for swamp use. Nadler foundry, a local firm started making replacement parts to keep them running, eventually bought the patterns and rights and made the same motor under their name into the 50's. We now have patterns for pistons, water pumps, eccentrics, straps, and timer assemblies. Also jigs to make timer rings, points, and pour bearings. |
