I don't think this is a marine engine.
The exhaust manifold is not water cooled and looks like it has a thermosyphon cooling arrangement for a radiator. The radiator fan looks original to the engine. Also, seems not to have a thrust bearing off the drive end.
Probably less than 18-20 HP.
My guess is mid-late 1920's engine because of the vacuum advance on the distributor.
The ad that Richard provided shows a more complete marine version.

But nice to see an old survivor.

Thanks for the info. Hope to get time to look into it more. It looks all rusty but it turns over easily by hand

Not a hope in hell of getting these under 200Kb each, so here they are:

Hoover Holton seems to have been a financier/hustler type involved in early auto industry ventures. Last mention of him in the press is being in a serious auto accident in 1931 at age 59.

No mention of the company after about 1917. They may have changed their name or been bought out, but don't see any reference to that. They were advertising for machinists for years, so may have had some trouble keeping staff.

PS: don't ask why the last two hyperlinks don't work; I cut and pasted the HTML coding from the first two... LOL
