I have a 1972 27 horse Palmer gas engine in my Catalina sailboat. I was running the engine at the dock the other day and the engine stalled. It had plenty of gas in the tank, so I'm not sure why it stopped.
I spent the afternoon working on it today, replaced the gas filter; checked that plugs (they were firing); checked the distributor cap which seemed okay; took off the air filter, still wouldn't start; drained the carborater, but didn't take it apart and clean it.
The engine will turn over but will not start.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Have you checked that the fuel line is not clogged? Replace any old rubber fuel lines with Coast Guard approved fuel line. make sure fuel is flowing to carburator.
