How similar are these engines in dimensions and propeller shaft?

Would this be an easy conversion or would it require intense surgery?

My friend is looking into buying a sailboat with a P60. Currently, the engine runs but we're planning what to do in the future if it rusts out and dies.

Rich, why on Earth would you want to ? I can see keeping a P-60 running, that's why I respond to this board but if one were to pull it out seems to me that you would be better off putting a diesel back in.

If the P-60 is fresh water cooled it should last for many years. With its 3 bearing crankshaft and all the engine parts available from CASE/IHC there is no difficulty in getting parts. If it is salt water cooled when the exhaust manifold goes it is junk if you cannot find a good exhaust manifold.
